Kids are a priority for us at WPUMC.

We take our task of teaching them seriously and we also know we’ll learn a lot from them in the process!

We think it’s important that children are exposed to worship every Sunday. There’s a “Kids’ Corner” and a “Baby Space” in our sanctuary where children can color and keep their hands busy as they listen to what the grown-ups are doing. We now have a staffed nursery for our youngest members. All children are always welcome in worship but parents have the option to take their little ones 4 years and younger upstairs to our paid nursery care providers.

After the Bible reading is shared during worship, the kids are invited to come forward for some time with Pastor Corey. Sometimes she shows a video, sometimes they sing a song, sometimes she has a crazy prop or silly questions. They say a prayer together and then as the grown-ups sing, our children bring forward the offering plates and prayer request sheets. After their work is done they head downstairs to our Sunday School space with a teacher and a helper.

But we always read a Bible story, sing songs, pray, and have fun! Our top priority is that our children learn about God and know how much God loves them in a safe and fun environment. All of our volunteers have had background checks and we follow the United Methodist Safe Sanctuaries policies.

We are intentional about including our children in our church-wide mission projects and we include our children as participants in worship several times a year.10647085_750931688304734_8031586203931371384_n

Sunday school runs during the school year (Sept. – May). Through the summer we have several family fun nights, including a kickball night and Gator Day at Dorchester Park.

We also hold a special Kids’ Easter Vigil & Egg hunt every year during Lent. Children walk with Jesus through the events of Holy Week and learn the story of Easter. Then we celebrate with an Easter egg hunt! We also hold various family activities throughout the year such as game nights and movie nights.
